Thich Quang Duc was a Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist monk who burned himself to death at a busy Saigon road intersection on June 11 1963. Quang Duc was protesting about the persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government led by Ngo Dinh Diem. After his death, his body was re-cremated, but his heart remained intact.

It’s important to note that not once did he make a sound while he burned himself alive.
Instagrammers Capture San Francisco’s Fog with @KarlTheFog
San Francisco is known for eclectic architecture, steep hills and sweeping bridges, but above all else it’s known for its fog. Unsuspecting tourists visiting in the summer months may not quite welcome San Francisco’s fog with open arms, but those who reside in Fog City have grown accustomed to waking up with a cool grey blanket of fog hugging the rooftops. And within the Instagram community, many have adopted the idea that the fog has a witty personality of his own through the popularity of @karlthefog: the Instagram account belonging to San Francisco’s fog.
California Instagrammers from San Francisco to San Jose have captured Karl’s constant presence by adding @karlthefog to their photos. To see more of Karl’s beautiful grey adventures, head over to @karlthefog’s account on Instagram and be sure to navigate to Karl’s Photos of You section to see the foggy portraits taken by other Instagrammers.
